Still, we're always to shocked and saddened to discover when we visit a school for the first time that student motivation is often an afterthought in prevention planning. Student motivation must become a vital component of any prevention plan. Teachers and school leaders, if despite your best efforts at preventing students' risky behaviors you're still seeing unacceptably high rates of dropping out, violence, drugs/alcohol/tobacco use, gang involvement, sex -- not to mention poor academic performance -- you may not be meeting the motivational needs of your students.
